Ms. Keane's Kitchen Visit

On Tuesday our students got a behind the scenes tour of the kitchen. They learned about all the community workers in the kitchen, what they do and the tools they use. As a treat at the end of the tour, Dona Emilia gave them some oreo cookies! We had so much fun and saw sooo much food. Thank you to Dona Emilia, Dona Camila, and the rest of the kitchen staff!

Linda Sue Park Parent Coffee on Tuesday:

Learning Community Assemblies
Learning Community D will have an assembly on Friday at 8:15 am in the auditorium. Join us so we can share our learning with you!

The Eagle Way
Recently, our Graded PTA hosted a coffee about parenting and discipline.  Since then, we have continued to hear how valuable the information was to parents who were able to attend.  Whether you were able to attend or not, as parents, we are always looking for ways to respond to our children that are supportive to them and foster their development as good citizens.  Here is a link to “Seven Tips for Practicing Positive Discipline” that you may find helpful.

Lost and Found
There are many items in our lost and found. If your child is missing anything, please remind them to check the boxes just outside the Lower School Office. We will also display the items during the holiday concerts. On December 15 any items left over will be donated to charity.

Curriculum Update: What's Going on in First Grade

Literacy: Students are becoming experts in reading and writing non-fiction books. They know and apply correct use of text features including table of contents, headings, labels, glossary, and diagrams. In spelling, students continue working on short vowel sounds and are beginning to learn digraphs.

Math: Students are increasing their addition skills and learning how to measure (comparing non-standard and standard) and using a ruler to measure in inches.

Social Studies: Students are beginning to interview different community workers at our school to learn about who helps us at school and how they help us.

Portuguese PAL: Students have been singing the song AEIOU by Grupo Triii and working on their "Livro das Vogais", their book of vowels. They have been searching for new words in dictionaries and practicing reading and writing with the correct spelling and pronunciation. For the next weeks, we will read books and talk about end of year celebrations.

Ms. Keane's Halloween Celebration

We had so much fun last week with the Halloween Parade and our Halloween activities. Students celebrated by doing a reader's theater of the five little pumpkins. They also listened to a Halloween story and did some fun math Halloween activities. Everyone looked great in their costumes and we had a fabulous time during the parade. Thank you to all that came to volunteer as well as those who came to cheer on their kids.
