Ms. England's Class Finishes 2017 with a bang!

Wax Museum

What a wonderful way to finish our community helpers unit! This unit we learned all about community helpers and what it takes to run our community (from getting to school to keeping the school safe). Also, we had to learn interview skill and conduct our own interviews. Finally, we practiced and completed a presentation honoring many of the community helpers at Graded. Our wax museum was a great success! We hosted over 7 classes and many special adult visitors. Some of us believe we presented almost 40 times! The hard work was well worth all the effort! Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who were able to come out and support our museum.

Gingerbread House

We want to say a big "THANK YOU" to all the parents who came to help us celebrate Ms. Purdie's birthday! Also, an extra big thank you to Sebastian's mom for bringing in gingerbread houses for us to decorate. Decorating the houses was an amazing exercise in communication, sharing and compromise. Overall, we really demonstrated the principles of the Eagle Way to make some amazing houses!

Ms. England's Class Wax Museum

Dear Parents,
On Thursday, December 14th at 9:00AM our class will be presenting our Wax Museum. During the wax museum we will pretend to be wax sculpture of a Graded community helper. We'll act as someone else and can only move or talk when a pretend button is pressed. As seen on SeeSaw, we have interviewed a community workers at the school and the wax museum is our opportunity to present the results of our research. We'll be discussing which community worker we are, what the job entails, who we work with and associated cooperation skills, and how this job helps the school community.
Parents and relatives are welcome, as well as siblings. Classes will be coming in and out to see our wax museum, but parents/relatives may stay as long as they wish.
We are allowed to dress up and bring things from home. This is optional and not required, but if we decide to do so please remind us that we need to dress up before school starts.
Optional:
  • Dressing up like community workers.
    • Please dress up before coming to school
We are really excited and we hope to see you Thursday!!
Love,
Ms. England's Class

Dear Parents,
On Friday, December 8 at 10:30AM our classroom will be presenting our Wax Museum. A wax museum is a museum in which they pretend to be wax people. They act as someone else and can only move or talk when a pretend button is pressed. Students have interviewed community workers at the school and will be presenting themselves as a community worker they have researched. They will be discussing which community worker they are, what the job entails, what tools you need for the job, and how this job helps the school community.
Parents and relatives are welcome, as well as siblings. Classes will be coming in and out to see our wax museum, but parents/relatives may stay as long as they wish.
Students asked if they could dress up and bring things from home. I told them this was completely optional and not required, but if you decide to do so please have them dress up before school starts and bring the tools on Thursday.
Optional:
  • Dressing up like community workers.
    • Please dress up before coming to school
  • Tools- Bringing tools from home that their community worker uses.
    • Please bring on Thursday, December 7
The students are really quite excited and we hope to see you all there.
Sincerely,

Shannon Keane

Learning how to use commas- Ms. Heineberg's students

Today students worked with partners and practiced using commas  in their writing. Mr. Lockhart prepared a fun and challenging activity in which they had to put the words in the correct order and use commas when needed. First graders are using commas while writing their teaching books.
