Ms. England's Class's Treats

Popcorn Party

After working very hard to follow the Eagle Way and act as role models in the school, we earned a popcorn party. Everyone was so proud, especially after earning the golden G for our hard work in class! Last week we earned enough marbles to spend sometime outside and munch on some yummy popcorn. We are going to keep up the hard work!!

Abbie's Visit

Ms. England brought in Abbie, her dog, this week to help the 12th grade relax a little before going into their IB exams. However, we benefited because Abbie stayed in our class when she was not playing with the big kids. We loved having Abbie come for a visit! Everyone even got to measure her legs. We are already trying to discover a way to make Ms. England bring her back in soon!!!

Second Grade Bake Sale

The second grade is learning about supply and demand, and wants and needs. Therefore, the classes are hosting a bake sale on May 4th. We have received a special invitation from Ms. Ziegert's class to attend their bake sale. Please send in a little money with us on May 4th so we can support Ms. Ziegert's class (and buy some yummy baked goods).

We need your help for our wonderful Game Gala! We are building some toys with the students and need as many pet bottles (big ones - 1.5 L or 2L) and powdered milk cans (leite ninho, nescau, or any other cans)  as possible. Please send them with your children and drop them off  at the P.E. office (covered court near the LS gym)
Thank you very much.

Lower School Update - April 23, 2018

Learning Community A Assembly Friday
We begin our final round of learning community assemblies for this school year on Friday with Community A. Start time is 8:15 am in the auditorium. We hope you can join us to celebrate our learning!

Arriving to Class on Time
Mornings at Graded are a busy time. Students and parents can be seen moving through the hallways, interacting with each other, and preparing for their day. Our start time in the Lower School is 8:05, however we recommend students are in their classrooms and prepare their materials by 8:00. Why is this so important? Being on time allows students to experience their full day of learning. Arriving a few minutes early allows them to have some conversations with their peers and ease into their day. Often at the beginning of class teachers run through the day or have the students work on a warm up activity to help them prepare for learning. Even more important, arriving on time effects student learning. Please see the following article with researched based data on the importance of arriving to class on time: Did you know arriving to class on time dramatically improves student learning?

Congratulations to this week’s “Golden G” class winners who were recognized at this morning’s Nest assembly for working together and following The Eagle Way:  Ms. Fernanda Rodrigues’ Pre-primary class and Ms. Kulikowsky’s third grade class

Curriculum Update: What's Going on in First Grade

Literacy: Students are learning to bring characters to life in both reading and writing. During reading, this entails reading with lots of expression. In writing, this includes adding actions and speech to their characters.

Math: Students continue to work on place value concepts to hundreds. They are solving number stories that involve addition and subtraction and are learning to count up as a strategy for making change.

Social Studies: Students are continuing to learn about families by focusing on the different homes they live in and the different activities they do. This week they will be learning about family traditions and we are looking for your help by working with the students to fill out their family traditions homework sheet.

Portuguese PAL: Students in PAL classes are practicing the alphabet and the correct names of the letters. We have been watching this video and singing this songIn order to acquire more vocabulary, students will be writing lists of foods, toys, animals, school supplies and fruits in alphabetical order.
They will also celebrate their Não Confunda books, reading their rhymes to their friends.

Ms. Keane's Community Assembly Day

Our assembly was a great success! Thank you for helping us practice the questions. I know they were all very proud of themselves. Also thank you to all those that came out and watched the assembly and who joined us after for our family tree activity. I know the students really appreciated those that came. Check out some photos below.
