Dear Families, May 9, 2018
Throughout the year, our class has been learning about money which has helped us count, add
and subtract by 1s, 5s, and 10s, and 25s. Now it’s time to apply what we’ve been learning!
On Friday, May 25 the First Grade Math Mall will open for business! Between the hours
of 9:00-9:30, families are invited to visit the Math Mall in our class, J4, to make purchases
(From 9:30 to 10:00, another class will come). Item prices will be between 5 and 95 centavos.

To prepare for the Math Mall, each student is preparing items in class such as bookmarks,
origami, pencil tops, handmade stickers, drawings, paper airplanes, student-made books,
and other handmade items.
The purpose of the Math Mall is to give our students an opportunity to practice adding prices
and making change for amounts under R$1. Besides, of course, having fun!

The Math Mall will be open for about an hour and we hope to count on your presence that day.
You can help us by helping your child practice giving change in reais.
Another way you can help us is to donate Brazilian coins- so we can start practicing
with them in class.
Thank you in advance for your support!
