Welcome to Second Grade!

Ms. Wilker, Mr. Maykut, Ms. Jessie, Ms. Mendonca
Welcome to second grade! We are looking forward to building a relationship with you and your child. It's going to be a successful and positive school year for everyone!

The first weeks of second grade will be all about getting to know each other and creating our ideal classroom, talking about what our goals for second grade are and how we will accomplish these goals. We will begin the foundations of our reading and writing workshops, as well as learn some of our math routines. Students will also be attending a variety of specials. Please refer to your child's classroom schedule posted on their teacher's individual blog.

Second graders will have an eight day schedule. Within these 8 days, your child will have Portuguese every day, music 2 times, art 2 times, library once and P.E. 3 times. We strongly encourage your child come to school in sneakers every day or leave a pair at school for P.E. days. For an emergency, a bag with an extra set of clothes to keep at school is also recommended.

Communication is key for a successful partnership. Throughout the year, you will be able to view important information and see photos of your child at work. You'll also be able to see samples of student work so please subscribe to this blog.

Graded's open house will take place on September 4 at 6:00 pm where we will explain and answer questions about the second grade curriculum and homework. Homework will begin on Monday, August 13 which will include daily reading and math. Raz-Kids is an excellent resource for reading! Homework folders will go home every day and must be returned daily.

Please note that second grade classrooms will be open by 7:50 am. If students arrive earlier they are welcome to wait outside if the classroom is locked. All students should be in the classroom by 8:00 am so classes can begin promptly at 8:05. Arriving late disrupts learning for all students.

We are excited to begin our school year on Monday, August 6!
