2D: Yum Yum Pizza Restaurant

Grade 2D opened their very own restaurant as part of our economy unit in social studies. By creating this restaurant students learned about why different services are important and how services are different than goods.  Students looked at how goods are made and how they are transported. Students also looked at the difference between wants and needs.

The restaurant made over 1,000 reals.  Most of the money was used to purchase pizza crusts, sauce and toppings but there was enough left over to tip the cleaning ladies who spent a couple of extra hours trying to get cheese out of the carpet.  Students also decided to donate half of their profit to the Graded Fund which amounted to 200 reals.  They kept 168 reals to buy treats for a classroom party.  With the amount of 168 reals in mind, students created individual shopping lists proposing how to spend that money.

Overall, it was a great learning experience for everyone involved!

Chefs prepare the ingredients.

A full house of happy customers.

Dishwasher keeping up!

We invited other grade two classes.

Some of Mr. Maykut's older students dropped by.

It was great having a few parents dine at Yum Yum!
