That’s a Wrap

It's hard to believe that the year is over! The last day of second grade was spent watching the talent show which they can audition for next year in third grade. We also had our classroom party. Snacks were purchased with the money we made from the restaurant. Finally, we had a little award ceremony where students were recognized for their efforts in Raz-Kids, Mathletics and in the classroom. Sadly we had to say good-bye to Yunhoo who is moving back to South Korea. We wish him all the best.

Good-bye Yunhoo! We will miss you!

The top three Raz-Kids readers for the year!

Mathletics award winners!

Grade 2D rocks! Everyone is unique!

Learning Ideas for the Break

As families prepare for the break, consider the following ideas for continuing learning at home, or on the road as you travel!

Reading: Please have your child read every day!  Students have already been introduced to the Reading World Cup Challenge sponsored by the Lower School library. More information can be found on the Library website. Remember, there are loads of reading resources on this site! For example, Tumblebooks.com (Username: Graded, password: books) can be used to complete the World Cup Challenge.
If you need some book recommendations while on the break, here is a great recommended book list.
Don't forget to log-in to Raz-kids.com to read loads of "good-fit books". Your child's account is still active!

Writing:  It is always a great idea to keep a journal!

Math:  Students may work on completing all the remaining units in Mathletics.com. Also unit 12 in their Everyday Math journal is a great review of all the concepts that have been covered so far this year. Math is more than completing a worksheet. Math is everywhere around us! Here are some ideas about how to make math connect to the real world:

  • Go grocery shopping and have your child present the correct amount of money to the cashier.  Talk about how much different items cost, and how that will affect the total bill. Estimate the cost of the bill.
  • Follow a recipe together, and talk about the fractions you are using in your measuring cups
  • Go on a shape find around Sao Paulo.  What 2D and 3D shapes do you see in the different buildings?
  • Talk with your child about graphs you see in newspapers, and what information you can learn from the graphs.
Second grade students were exposed to cursive writing this year. Students can work on their cursive booklets if they haven't yet finished it.
Please refer to this site for ideas on how to make mathematical thinking visible to your child.

Thank you again for a fabulous year! It was a pleasure getting to know you and your children. Have a safe and joyful holiday and best of luck in third grade!

2A Market
