Curriculum Update
Math: Our unit six on number (addition and subtraction, plus multiplication through arrays) is coming to an end.
Our next unit focuses on patterns, computation skills, and applying mathematics through the use of data. During
this unit students will collect real life data from their classmates, and analyze their results.

Reading: We are at the beginning of our new nonfiction reading unit. This is an exciting unit for the students, and
complements our science unit nicely. In this unit students will be asked to think deeply about the nonfiction books
they read. They will identify what specifically a given book is teaching them, use the vocabulary of a given
nonfiction topic to speak about the books, and use the text features of nonfiction to best understand what they read.

Writing and Science: Students have begun their new balance and motion science unit. During this special unit
students will work on developing their scientific knowledge on the ways objects can move, and how different forces
affect movement. At the same time, students will be developing their writing skills to follow the scientific method
to thoroughly and accurately record their results during their experiments. Students will also have the opportunity
to create their own rube goldberg machine at the end of this unit.

Curr
