Solving Words Takes Strategic READING: We are becoming nonfiction readers experts on a variety of topics!
In this bend, readers will understand that reading to learn and using key vocabulary (the “lingo”) is an important part of growing knowledge!
Nonfiction readers will notice text features to figure out undefined  keywords by using the whole page for a better comprehension.
Solving Words Takes Strategic and Flexible Thinking:  readers will notice that figuring out keywords by themselves will require persistence and practice!

MATH: We have begun our Math Journal Volume 2! Students are very excited about their new math book! In unit 7, children are exploring patterns and reinforcing numeration skills in order to develop readiness for multiplication and division.
Unit 7 has three main areas of focus:
*To describe patterns that result from skip counting by 2’s,5’s,and 10’s,
*To build mental arithmetic skills for adding 1-digit and multi-digit numbers, and
*To make frequency tables, line plots, and bar graphs from real life situations.

WRITING AND SCIENCE: We’ve been writing like scientists! Writers are learning that scientists study the world around them, pose questions and hypotheses, conduct experiments, and write about their results/conclusions in lab reports. The science concepts that the students are applying in their lab reports are all related to Physical Science:
  • Objects and systems that turn on a central axis exhibit rotational motion.
  • The amount and position of mass affect how an object rotates.
  • A push or pull (a force) is needed to initiate rotational motion in objects and systems.
