Welcome back families! We are so excited to have everyone back. We
feel invigorated and look forward to a successful and productive 2020!
Math:
In math, we will continue working on Module 3. This module builds directly on students’ work with
multiplication and division in Module 1. At this point, Module 1
instruction coupled with fluency practice in Module 2 has students well on
their way to meeting the Grade 3 fluency expectation for multiplying and
dividing within 100. Module 3 extends the study of factors from 2, 3, 4, 5, and
10 to include all units from 0 to 10, as well as multiples of 10 within
100. Please continue to check the blog for biweekly parent newsletter.
Language Arts:
Students will be reading informational texts to figure out the
main ideas and supporting details. Students will learn how authors use text
features to structure their writing and help readers better understand what
they read.
Students will also practice oral and written summaries of what
they read.
In writing, students will transfer their reading skills to help
them research and write their own informational pieces. Using authors as
mentors, students will follow the writing process to produce their own
non-fiction pieces.
Throughout Language Arts there will be many opportunities to
integrate our Science content related to Weather and Climate.
Science:
We will begin our unit on Weather and Climate. The focus of this
unit will be collecting data about local weather, displaying data and making
predictions based on that data. Students will inquire into extreme weather
events and their impact. We will also be doing various activities in our new
Innovation Studio!
