Language Arts

In reading and writing, students have continued to focus on informational texts. They have been applying their comprehension strategies to write summaries for nonfiction texts that include only the main ideas and supporting details. As readers, they continue to stop while reading to check their understanding and to jot down ideas, questions and connections.

Students have been using the "boxes and bullets" strategy to think about what they read, as well as take notes in their own words. During a recent visit from Dr. Purcell, our LS Librarian, students learned how to navigate the informational website, PebbleGo. They are learning how to use keywords to narrow the focus of their investigations. As researchers, they will need to gather and combine information about many subtopics related to the main topic that they are studying.

Science

Grade 3 has been working hard collecting data from our weather stations. We will now be focused on graphing our data and analysing our findings.  We will compare our findings with the usual climate at this time of year. Classes will also be practicing making spoken weather reports, like we see on the news.  These reports will be our summative assessment for the unit.
