Rituais iniciais nas aulas de português

Nas aulas de português, antes de começarmos com os trabalhos de leitura e escrita, seguimos a mesma rotina: cantamos e fazemos alguns minutos de mindfulness.
No momento, estamos trabalhando com as músicas do musical "Os Saltimbancos", peça inspirada no conto dos Irmãos Grimm, “Os Músicos de Bremen”.
Todos os dias, os alunos chegam felizes e animados para cantarem as músicas. Como dica de passeio cultural, no Shopping Jardim Sul, durante alguns domingos do mês de setembro, haverá a apresentação do musical, caso queiram levar seus filhos.

Nos nossos momentos de mindfulness, estamos praticando a respiração, concentração e também estamos falando sobre gratidão. Tem sido uma experiência bastante enriquecedora.

Lower School Update - September 17, 2018

The Eagle’s Nest
Two classes were awarded the Golden G award today for demonstrating respect the past week. Congratulations to Ms.  Heineberg’s first grade class, and Ms. Lomax’s third grade class!

Room Parent 101
On Wednesday morning all our new room parents will attend a training session for their role this school year. We would like to thank these parents for being willing to volunteer their time.

Learning Community C Assembly
On Friday Learning Community C will share their learning with members of our community. The assembly will start at 8:15 and should last approximately 40 minutes. We hope you can join us!

While Upper School has a week of Classroom Without Walls, our Lower School will be in classes (with the exception of Friday which is a Professional Development day for teachers). Here are the rotation days for the week:

Reading and Writing Blocks!

We are learning writing moves (craft)  form our favorite authors so we can transfer their strategies to our OWN stories! Very Powerful ideas!

Lower School Open House
Tuesday night we invite all parents to join us for our open house. Presentations will begin at 6:00 pm and the evening will conclude with a social in the Student Center. The detailed schedule is below.

Some other important information:
- Grade level presentations will be repeated, it is only necessary to attend one presentation per child.
- Portuguese and support (ELL/OLS)  teachers will visit classrooms.
- Specialist teachers (Art, Music, and PE) are available to chat with you in room H06 (the room next to the LS Music Room) from 6:00 until 8:00pm.
- Our LS Librarian will be available in the Student Center.
- If you require child care, please contact the LS Office at 3747-4808 by 4:00 pm on Monday, September 3 and we will make arrangements based on need.

PAL Updates

Dear parents and students
From September 3rd to 6th we will celebrate the independence of Brazil in a week full of events organized by the Portuguese teachers and the PTA. During the Portuguese classes, we will learn:

  • what it is to be independent and the independence process in Brazil;
  • we will read stories about the independence and we will learn to sing the national anthem;  
  • we will learn about one of the states in Brazil called Minas Gerais, its historical and cultural importance to Brazil; 
  • visit the PTA fair to try some of the food delicacies from Minas Gerais; 
  • we will watch a theather performance by the Brazilian theater group called TRUKS;
  To join the celebration, don´t forget to wear the colors in the Brazilian flag: verde, amarelo, azul e branco!
