PAL Updates

    Taking Books Home

PAL students had a great time during class today when choosing books from our class library to take home and to read to parents, relatives, and friends.

Students are excited to read to these books at home, some have chosen challenging books and were aware that, on these choices, they should be looking for word understanding.

Hope you'll have a great time reading with them!

Lower School Update - May 8, 2019

The Eagle’s Nest
Two classes were awarded the Golden G award on Monday for demonstrating the Eagle Way. Congratulations to Ms. Mendonca’s second grade class and Ms. Kitto’s fifth grade class!

MAP Testing
Twice a year, our students in second to fifth grade take MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) tests. We use the information in these tests to help us understand each child’s areas of strength and areas for improvement. Parents will also be sent the result of these tests at the end of the school year. While there is no need for any of our students to study prior to these tests, we do encourage a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast to assist with their focus.

Book Recommendation
With children using digital devices more and more, it is important to monitor what and how they use these devices.  As parents, we also need to monitor our technology use. Adam Atlar, a professor of psychology and marketing at NYU, examines addictive technology in his book: Irresistible: The Rise of Addictive Technology and the Business of Keeping Us Hooked. 2D Service Workers

As part of our study of the economy in social studies, students are learning about service workers. Throughout the week, the classroom has been transformed into community with different types of services that help people meet their needs and wants.

A manicurist helps paint your nails at a nail salon.

A server helps serve food at a restaurant.

A bank helps you borrow money from a bank.

A teacher helps you learn a new language at a school.

A coach helps you learn a new sport at a sporting complex.

A pilot helps you travel to new places from the airport.

A hairdresser helps style your hair at a hair salon.

A massage therapist helps you relax at a massage parlor.

A banker lends money.

At a drug store pharmacist helps you take the right medicine so you feel better.

A pharmacist prescribes medication.

A coach helps you stay in shape.

A massage therapist helps your muscles.

Learning a new language is helpful!

Helping you look your best!

Helping you look cool!
