Social Studies: Mapping

In Social Studies students are learning about mapping.  Many have seen our 3D map of a community we designed.  Now we are focusing on two dimensional maps of the classroom and playground.  In groups of 3 or 4, students worked together creating a maps of our classroom.

Fun Last Days

Monday Dec. 17th - Relaxing Reading Monday!

We will read from 9:30 until 10:30 holding our favorite stuffed animal!

From 2:00 - 3:00 we'll build our own community (rural, urban, and suburban).

We are asking students to bring legos, playmobil, toy cars and trucks, building blocks, etc… from home!

                                       

Tuesday Dec. 18 - Decorating Cookies!

From 9:30 - 10:30 we will decorate Holiday cookies!

From 2:00 - 3:00 Holidays arts and crafts in our classroom!

Wednesday Dec. 19 - Half Day!

From 8:30 - 10:00 we are going to watch “Frosty the Snowman’ in the auditorium.

From 10:00 -11:30 - Special snack in the classroom, clean-up, recess, and bye, bye!

Geometry: Castle Contest

To start off our geometry unit in math, students designed symmetrical castles out of 3-D solids.  The castle needed to be symmetrical and at least 50 centimeters tall.

Students have begun learning the names of these 3-D shapes and exploring their properties.  Can they roll? Slide? Stack? How many faces, vertices or edges do they have?

Celebration of Writing

After the holiday concert, parents came back to the classroom to celebrate their child's writing.  Students shared a published opinion piece and a letter they wrote to Santa about why they would make a great elf.  Students also sang a song entitled Your a Mean One Mr. Grinch! Overall a great time was had by all.  Thank you to all the parents who came out and supported their child.  My apologies for not being able to capture everyone's picture.
